Hattusha is the UNESCO-listed capital of the Hittite Empire, spread across a vast rocky plateau with monumental gates, fortifications and the rock sanctuary of Yazılıkaya. Visitors praise the Lion Gate and the sense of history here, but warn that the site is large, partially eroded and best explored with a car and a museum pass.
