Attraction

Snake Island is connected to the mainland by an isthmus; historically it was reachable only by water. In the Byzantine period there was the monastery of Saint John, and legends said the monastery was protected by snakes. Only ruins of the monastery remain today. The island is not always accessible — sometimes the entrance is fenced off, so visiting can be a matter of chance.
